BABL 069: Amanda Boleyn on Going Out On Your Own

Amanda Boleyn, on top of being the most photogenic woman on the planet, is the incredible host of the She Did It Her Way Podcast, a freelance consultant, a blogger, a conference planner, and an all around baller.

After graduating from the University of Iowa, Amanda took a job with Target managing a $65M store. What she described as ‘drinking from a firehose’, and problematic management issues had her waiting until the very last minute to get out of bed in the morning. She and I had met shortly into her Target career and I suppose I introduced her to living a life by design.

The rest, as they say….

What Amanda describes as the Lead Up, the Leap and the Land is what she went through over the next several years. The Lead Up is making that decision as to whether or not you’re going to jump ship and begin creating the life you’ve imagined.

Around the 10:00 mark, Amanda talks about making the decision to get out of her comfort zone saying that the timing is never perfect, but the Universe was supporting her in a number of ways. Once she made the Leap, Amanda worked with Wells Fargo in a 3rd party recruiting position, but it was a total interim position with no time off and no benefits. This was the time Amanda needed to do some networking and begin laying the groundwork for, ultimately, The Land which is doing what she’s up to now.

Amanda’s advice to people who want to leave their job is to spend some time figuring out what gives you joy. Learn as much as you can, and know that there is generally a system for doing anything you really want to do. It’s about finding those systems and people who know those systems to get you going.

Around 21:00, Amanda talks about being a solopreneur giving you more time to create. With some additional free time, the She Did It Her Way Podcast was born. Since the beginning of 2015, SDIHW has been mentioned in high profile places like Forbes. All because she took action and a slight calculated risk. The rewards have been enormous.

At 25:00, she describes the Lead Up, the Leap and the Land from her own perspective.
